Demand change detection in airline revenue management

چکیده

Demand shocks—unobservable, sudden changes in customer behavior—are a common source of forecast error airline revenue management systems. The COVID-19 pandemic has been one example highly impactful macro-level shock that significantly affected demand patterns and required manual intervention from analysts. Smaller, micro-level shocks also frequently occur due to special events or competition. Despite their importance, detection methods employed by airlines today are often quite rudimentary practice. In this paper, we develop science-based framework based on statistical hypothesis testing which enables fast shocks. Under simplifying assumptions, show how the properties detector can be expressed analytical closed form demonstrate expression is remarkably accurate even more complex environments. Simulations used successfully identify positive negative both volume willingness-to-pay. Finally, discuss could integrated into an system allow for practical use

Dynamic Revenue Management in Airline Alliances

Major airlines are selling increasing numbers of interline itineraries, in which flights operated by two or more airlines are combined and sold together. One reason for this increase is the rapid growth of airline alliances, which promote the purchase of interline itineraries and therefore virtually extend the reach of each alliance member’s network. This practice, however, creates a difficult ...

Pricing substitutable flights in airline revenue management

We develop a Markov decision process formulation of a dynamic pricing problem for multiple substitutable flights between the same origin and destination, taking into account customer choice among the flights. The model is rendered computationally intractable for exact solution by its multidimensional state and action spaces, so we develop and analyze various bounds and heuristics. We first desc...

Stochastic Comparisons in Airline Revenue Management

C two markets of different sizes but similar costs and fare structure. All other things being equal, is an airline’s expected revenue larger in the market with larger demand? If not, under what circumstances is it possible to compare expected revenues without carrying out a detailed analysis? In this article, we provide answers to these questions by studying the relationship between the optimal...

AIRLINE STOCHASTIC CAPACITY ALLOCATION BY APPLYING REVENUE MANAGEMENT

To formulate a single-leg seat inventory control problem in an airline ticket sales system, the concept and techniques of revenue management are applied in this research. In this model, it is assumed the cabin capacity is stochastic and hence its exact size cannot be forecasted in advance, at the time of planning. There are two groups of early-reserving and late-purchasing customers demanding t...
